The nation and the press has made much of the tragic killing of 17 year old Trayvon Martin at the hands of George Zimmerman. I am oversimplifying the situation but the basic outline of the case is George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch participant, spotted Trayvon in the neighborhood and felt that Trayvon was acting suspicious. Zimmerman called the police and informed him of his surveillance and pursuit of Trayvon. The police told Zimmerman to back off but Zimmerman continued pursuit where an eventual alleged struggle took place and Trayvon was shot and killed by Zimmerman. Zimmerman claimed self-defense and under Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law, he was not arrested. Did I mention that Trayvon was unarmed and black and Zimmerman is half-white/half-latino? This is where the racial wildfire begins. Pushed by the Media, Mainstream and Social, plus the contribution of the usual race card suspects like Al Sharpton, Let the Racial Divide wanted by Liberals Begin!!!!
Obviously George Zimmerman is innocent until proven guilty but the court of public opinion has already convicted him of a racist hate crime of murder. I have not seen all the evidence but what I have seen, makes me believe that Zimmerman is guilty at the very least of man-slaughter. That is my opinion not fact. Zimmerman may be a racist and the crime may be racially motivated, I have heard things to that effect but I have not seen them. George Zimmerman is bi-racial so I’m a little curious to see what half is charged with racism. George Zimmerman seems to be a wanna-be cop/real life comic-con geek superhero with a legal gun permit that got caught up in the hunt and was not prepared for the situation and exercised poor judgement at the very least, maybe racially motivated murder at the very worst. He was not arrested because Florida has a “Stand Your Ground” Law that gives a wide interpretation of self-defense. I feel he forfeited that legal right when the police told him to back off and he continued his pursuit or hunt. Zimmerman is definitely guilty of making legal gun owners look bad and I know the Left will use this tragic event to advance their gun control agenda. I believe and exercise my right to bear arms but with great power comes great responsibility which Zimmerman could not handle either. Be aware of people who use a tragic event or crime to strip away your constitutional rights.
The Feds are involved now because of potential civil rights violations which with all things government will be a blessing and a curse. Trayvon from all the information I have seen, admittedly not a lot, seemed to be a good kid and this is a terrible loss for his family. The issue I have is not color but the fact that Trayvon was not armed unless IED’s are now made from skittles. He was black and wearing a hoodie which I understand fits one of many criminal profiles but is only an excuse to observe and report at the most, not engage and kill. Some reporters say the hoodie has complicated the situation since it is part of a criminal profile, well I can counter that with other hoodie wearers such as monks, the cast of Lord of the Rings, Spartacus, and Robin Hood. My point being clothing is not enough to go on. Trayvon was not seen committing a crime or carrying a weapon. That reason alone did not give Zimmerman the right to pursue, engage, and kill.
What is more dangerous than hoodies or legal gun ownership is for the President to make this about Race before all the evidence is in. The President’s statement, that if he had a son he would look like Trayvon did not help the situation neither does Al Sharpton’s tired rhetoric written on a race card. The President is using this as a political football and a campaign strategy which disgusts me. Trayvon looks nothing like Obama so it was definitely a race baiting statement because if Obama had a son he would never be in that situation because of an extensive Secret Service detail. A lot of teenagers are killed everyday and where is Obama’s outrage then? He did this as another Liberal race card that cried wolf for political gain and he and the wannabe civil rights reenacter Al Sharpton are actually taking away from the focus of this tragedy and could ultimately aid Zimmerman in getting away with a crime.
Even though I do believe Zimmerman is guilty of something and I own a gun and I wear hoodies, let’s get ALL the evidence in before we convict somebody. As Trayvon’s Mother said, “This is a case of Right and Wrong.”and I agree and feel we should leave it at that for now.
